Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi welcomed Syria’s Ahmed Sharaa to Cairo at 9:00 AM EET, their first sit-down since Sharaa took power December 15, 2024. They met for three hours at Ittihadiya Palace, agreeing to send 500 Egyptian engineers to rebuild Aleppo by April. Sharaa, ex-al-Nusra commander, wore a suit, not fatigues. Sisi offered 10,000 tonnes of wheat aid, arriving March 10. Cameras caught them shaking hands at 12:30 PM, with Sisi saying, “Syria’s stability is Egypt’s.” A joint presser was scrapped after drone threats nearby.
